I do hope that at some point there will be a Starmer levelling with the public moment. Where he tells them that they can have growth, rising tax revenue to pay for public services, investment into the UK and more job opportunities by going into the Customs Union and preferably the Single Market too, or we can carry on as we are with largely flat growth and a sickly economy with increasing numbers of small businesses failing.

I believe we are far enough down the line of brexiity perils that most of the public would wear it and most of the minority that might protest, don't vote Labour, LibDem or Green anyway.

I’m sure the Lib Dems will start ‘banging on’ about Europe as the party conference season approaches.

And they'll be right! There has been only negative benefit resulting from Cameron's foolishness.

I agree. I was deliberately using Cameron’s phrase ironically

Given that Labour didn't really win an enormous amount of the electorate over (given the low turnout and the low % it took to win as the right was split) I suspect Starmer doesn't want to risk combining the right vote and angering all those who didn't vote this time, but did vote leave in the referendum in '29.

Yesterday's rally in London was very well attended by REFORM party members. As expected, Farage turned down the invitation to attend and address the crowd (public school snob). It may be that Starmer is reading the British electorate very well; if he makes nice with the EU, the demagogues will be aroused and the resulting political storm may sabotage British efforts to repair the relationship with Europe.

There will be no significant growth in the British economy without a close relationship with the EU, and perhaps not even then.

How to solve this puzzle?
