Chapter 5: What the remainder of the Brexit era might look like
So far, Brexit has not gone well. Oddly enough, almost everyone in the country agrees with this idea, be they Remainer or Leaver. In the most recent poll on the subject, 54% of people in the UK think leaving the EU was the wrong decision, with only 34% saying it was the right one. Even more stark than that, only 4% think Brexit has been handled well by the government so far.
Yet the battle against Brexit is far from won. Many voters think Brexit is still good in theory, it just hasn’t been done properly to this point. Another group of them may think Brexit was definitely a bad idea but don’t want to reopen the wounds or the battles of 2016-2019. With that in mind, it’s worth looking at the rest of this decade, assuming we don’t rejoin in that period, and try and predict what Brexit looks like over that time period. Added to this will be where opportunities might lie for rejoin campaigners to advance the cause.
