I understand that the title of my latest video (which can be seen by clicking above) may seem facetious to some, but I’m actually completely serious in putting it out there. A more rounded way to ask what I’m querying is this: Is Trump actually smarter than he appears and in fact, things like attacking Canada or his silly tariffs stuff (all of which go against all right-wing orthodoxy since the war, incidentally) are part of cunning plan, key elements of a whole bunch of secret deals he’s doing and by pursuing the policies he is pursuing, he will make himself richer somehow? In other words, is there a hidden self-centred purpose to Trump’s seeming madness that he is conscious of and working towards? Or he just a total tool?
I have discounted the other possibility: that Trump is secretly a genius and his plans are going to work out tremendously for the American people, because I know already that is not the case.
So many people on either side of the Trump debate - those who love him, those who despise him - lean towards the “there must be an angle” side of the debate. Few seem able to believe that Trump really has no idea how geopolitics work, or how tariffs actually function in reality. He just can’t be that stupid, they figure. Can he?
My hypothesis is that yes, Trump is simply as moronic as he appears to be. It’s just a matter of applying Occam’s razor to the situation. Like when he babbled about sharks and motors during the campaign, Trump is what he seems - an old man who has lost his marbles. He won because the Democrats screwed up, that’s it. He won by default.
Now he’s being allowed to pursue an economic strategy that every Republican must know deep down is going to be a catastrophe - not least because they argued against such an economic strategy for their entire lives, up until around five minutes ago - without seemingly any restraints. One has to wonder how long they will let him get away with this before the normie Republicans (what’s left of them anyhow) stop playing ball and cut him off at the knees by at least making him a lame duck president who can’t get anything through congress.
I talk about this in-depth, as well as the right’s predictable response to Marine Le Pen being barred from standing for president in France in my latest YouTube video, which you can watch above. In the meantime, if you haven’t subscribed to this Substack, please do (and subscribe to the YouTube channel while you’re at it - genuinely helps). Thanks.
Yes, Trump is an ignorant, egocentric, sexist, bully. That aside, I don't watch videos. If you have something to say, type it in. I read; not listen.
absolutely yes if anything life has shown us last few years, that any complete moron can arrive to power positions for different reasons, Lizz Truss, Jakob Res Moogs, etc
I also believe that all this Ukraine now I mad with you now I am not is a pantomime to hide he is a Putin asset, I mean, you have to be very very naive to believe Trump and Putin only spoke about what to do with Ukraine after trump won the elections
Fish was already sold a long time ago and all Trump is doing is to masquerade certain appearance of neutrality when things are getting too obvious even for his own crowd
